Bought a $1200 infrared paint curing system for my home setup last spring.
It cut my clear coat dry time from overnight to about 45 minutes, which was a total game changer for small jobs. Anyone else find a piece of gear that paid for itself way faster than you thought?

I mean, it's wild how much time is just sitting there waiting for stuff to dry or cure. I've seen this with a dehumidifier in my workshop. It felt like a splurge, but it cut the dry time for wood glue and paint by more than half. It makes you realize how much of our time is just dead space built into old ways of doing things. Getting that time back feels like you broke some hidden rule. Your infrared thing sounds like the same kind of win.

Double down on that dehumidifier point because it hits on something bigger. I think the REAL hidden time suck is humidity and temperature in general, not just for paint but for ANYTHING sticky or chemical based. Once you start messing with airflow and moisture, everything speeds up way more than you expect. It's like the shop is basically fighting against you with the default air and you don't realize it until you fight back. That infrared thing really opened my eyes to how sloooow regular air drying actually is when you compare it side by side.

Yeah, that's the real win, getting your evenings back instead of babysitting a project. @wade148 is right about dead space, it adds up. My version was a cheap heat gun for bending plastic. I was messing with some cosplay pieces, expecting to waste a whole weekend, and that thing let me fix warped parts in minutes instead of re-making them. It's not fancy gear, but it turned a frustrating chore into a quick fix and saved me so much headache.
