A customer in Toledo told me I was wrong about blending clearcoat

About a month ago, a guy brought his 2018 Silverado in for a quarter panel repair. It was a metallic blue, and I was explaining the blend process on the adjacent door. He cut me off and said, 'You don't need to blend that far. Just feather the clear and it'll be fine.' He was so sure, saying his 'uncle's shop' never blends full panels. I had to show him the color deck under our booth lights, pointing out how the metallic flop changes with the curve of the door. I told him, 'Sir, if I don't blend over that body line, you'll see a hard line in the sun by next Tuesday.' He finally agreed, but I could tell he thought I was just trying to run up the bill. That kind of doubt is frustrating when you're trying to do the job right the first time. Has anyone else had a customer try to tell you how to do your own paint work?

Man, that's the worst part of this job sometimes. People watch a few YouTube videos and suddenly they're experts. But here's what they never get: your reputation is on the line, not theirs. That truck drives around with your shop's name on the work. If it looks bad in a week, he's telling everyone you did a cheap job, not that he talked you out of the right way. Does he not realize he's arguing against his own best interest?

Right? Why do they always fight the fix?
