The $340 thing I learned about my attic fan after a July power bill in Decatur
I was going through old paperwork and found a Georgia Power bill from last July that was $340, and I almost threw it out before I noticed a little note on the back about attic ventilation. Called a guy out of Avondale Estates to look at my attic fan, and he told me my house was basically baking because the fan was pulling conditioned air out of the living room instead of hot air out of the attic. Turns out I had it wired to run 24/7, which cost me around $40 a month extra for two summers. He swapped the thermostat setting and added a $15 timer, and my August bill came in at $210. I'm no HVAC expert so take this with a grain of salt, but if your upstairs never cools down, check what your fan is actually pulling before you blame the AC. Has anybody else had a cheap fix turn out to be a wiring mistake like that?
