PSA: That $350 'foundation inspection' from a handyman is a scam
I paid a guy $350 to inspect my crawlspace foundation before buying a house in Decatur. He said everything was solid, just some minor settling. Six months later I had a 3-foot crack in the brick and water pooling under the subfloor. A licensed structural engineer charges around $500 but caught the real issue in 45 minutes. The handyman had no insurance and no engineering stamp, just a cheap flashlight and a clipboard. Ask for their PE license number before you hand over any cash, and check it with the state board. Anyone else get burned by a fake inspector or did I just pick the worst one in Atlanta?
