Pro tip: hold your phone against the eyepiece to check focus before you drag the scope out
I was out in my driveway in Tucson last night and caught myself doing something I never did back when I started. I remember loading film canisters and waiting a week for prints, and now I just press my phone to the eyepiece to see if the star is sharp. It saves me from hauling the mount out and then finding out I bumped the focuser. I got three clear shots of the Orion Nebula this way and only set up once. Does anyone else use their phone as a quick check before committing to a full setup?
