Dropped $340 on a 'beginner friendly' star tracker and quit after two sessions in Death Valley
Everyone in this hobby keeps pushing star trackers as the first big upgrade, so I bought the Sky-Watcher Star Adventurer 2i for $340 plus another $60 in batteries and a dovetail plate. Took it to Death Valley in March and spent both nights fighting the polar alignment scope instead of actually shooting anything. My $180 tripod and a 30 second exposure at 24mm got me cleaner shots of Orion than the tracker ever did because my alignment was off by just a few degrees each time. If you are new to astrophotography, spend that money on a faster lens or a darker sky trip first, the tracker is not the shortcut people claim. Anyone here actually happy with their star tracker, or did you all fight polar alignment for months like I did?
