TIL that a single teaspoon of soil can contain more living organisms than there are people on Earth

I was reading a gardening blog from Oregon and it mentioned this fact about soil biology. It completely blew my mind and made me think about my backyard differently. Has anyone else come across a fact that changed how you see something ordinary?

That Oregon blog probably counted dust mites as organisms.

Whoa, that's a wild fact. Makes me feel a bit better about my own messy life, honestly. If a teaspoon of dirt can host that much chaos and still grow things, maybe there's hope for my desk. I'm basically a walking ecosystem of unfinished projects and old coffee cups.
