Question about the time I asked a stranger to hold my ladder and he just... walked off with it
So two summers back I was painting the trim on my own house in Boise, second story, and my ladder was set on a slightly sloped spot by the driveway. I needed a second set of hands for like ten seconds to steady it while I climbed down with a full tray of white semi gloss, so I asked this guy walking his dog if he could just plant a foot on the bottom rung. He says sure, no problem, real friendly about it. I get halfway down and hear the dog start barking and when I look the guy is forty feet down the sidewalk, leash in one hand, my ladder still leaning there, just strolling away like he never agreed to anything. I ended up hugging the ladder with one arm and lowering the tray with the other, which of course tipped and dumped about a quart of paint onto the concrete. Now I only paint from the ground or I bribe my kid with ten bucks. Has anyone else had a total stranger just bail mid favor like that or is it just me?

Did the dog even matter or was the guy just gone? A buddy of mine had a neighbor hold his extension cord while he soldered and the guy wandered off to check his mailbox, leaving the cord dangling in the street.
