Went with ground penetrating radar over test trenching for a site survey in Ohio
Had to pick between GPR and old school test pits for a property with possible Native American burials near Dayton. I chose the radar since the landowner didn't want holes everywhere. Found three clear anomalies at 2 feet deep that we're pretty sure are features, not pipes or rocks. Has anyone else had good luck with GPR on clay-heavy soil like we get around here?

Damn that's a tough spot to be in. I've dealt with similar situations here in the Midwest where the clay is just brutal for radar. Two feet deep sounds pretty solid though especially for Ohio gumbo. Those anomalies you found better be features and not some rusted tractor part or old pipe. I've seen GPR pick up weird stuff that turned out to be nothing so I really hope yours are the real deal. Landowner not wanting holes everywhere makes total sense too. Having the evidence without tearing up the whole yard is a huge win for everyone.
