Showerthought: My embarrassing mix-up with a 'relic' at the park dig

I was volunteering at a public archaeology event and proudly showed off what I thought was an old coin. The expert just smiled and said it was a modern bottle cap from the 1990s. Why do our brains jump to ancient stuff so fast?
