PSA: that 12,000 year old footprint site in New Mexico is a bigger deal than people admit
I read the full paper on the White Sands footprints a while back and the number that got me was 12,000. That pushes humans into North America way earlier than the old textbook date of 13,000 years ago from the Clovis model, and it comes from seeds in the same layers as the prints, so it isn't just guessing. Some folks still argue the seeds got moved around by water, but you can't just wave off tracks of a kid and a mammoth sitting side by side. If you could dig anywhere to test this, where would you go?
