I was cataloging some pottery shards from a dig in Tucson and my old method was a total mess

For years I'd just scribble notes on paper tags that always got lost or smudged, but last month I started using a free app called 'Artifact Log' on my tablet to photograph and tag each piece right in the field. It cut my cataloging time in half and the data is actually searchable now. Has anyone else found a better digital tool for small site finds?

You found a free app that actually works for archaeology. That's the real shocker here. Most of the free tools I've tried are either full of ads or just stop getting updates after a year. I tried cataloging my rock collection with something similar and gave up after it lost all my data. What's the export function like on that one? Can you get your photos and notes out easily if the app goes away?

Reminds me of when my phone ate all my vacation photos.
