I thought the 'lost' Roman fort in Carlisle was just local legend
Worked a dig there last summer. Found a coin from Emperor Hadrian's time, 117 AD. The soil layers matched the old maps exactly. Anyone else have a site that proved the old stories right?

Ever feel like the coolest thing you'll ever find is a modern bottle cap? I mean, my big discovery was a rusty nail that I convinced myself was special for a week. It's a humbling hobby sometimes.

My uncle's metal detector beeped over the same spot for twenty minutes at a family picnic. We all took turns digging, convinced it was a lost wedding ring. @baker.simon, we finally pulled up a fully intact, modern pull-tab from a soda can. The whole crowd groaned, but he just laughed and said it proved his machine worked. That rusty nail of yours sounds like treasure compared to our aluminum letdown.
