Found some odd carved stones while they were fixing the drainage ditch...
I live next to this ditch they're working on... and I spotted a few stones with carvings in the pile of dirt. Took them home without thinking, but now I'm second guessing. They look really old, like from a long time ago. Who should I tell about this, or is it not a big deal? I just don't want to mess anything up...

My cousin works at the county museum, they always say to call them first with stuff like that. They'd know if it's important or just old junk.

Since @fionaw42 brought up the museum, did you note where in the ditch they were found? Context matters almost as much as the stones themselves.

Totally agree with you about the ditch location being key. Like @fionaw42 said, the museum folks are the ones who really know how to read that stuff. They could tell if it was just dropped last week or part of something way older. Finding out exactly where it sat in the ground makes all the difference... otherwise it's just a cool rock.
