A museum guide in Tucson told me to look at pottery shards up close, and it ruined every polished exhibit for me
Last month I visited the Arizona State Museum with my sister, and a guide named Rosa said the real story is in the broken pieces you can handle at the touch tables, not the shiny bowls behind glass. She was right, because I could see the actual thumbprints and repair marks on a 900 year old Hohokam sherd, stuff I would have missed from three feet away. Does anyone else think these touch collections are the best part of a museum, or am I just weird for caring more about the junk piles than the treasure rooms?
