Ten years in and I just learned why my wedges kept slipping
Tbh I've been felling for over a decade and always blamed cheap wedges when they'd pop out mid cut. Last month on a big oak near Tacoma, a coworker finally pointed out I was driving them into the back cut at the wrong angle, too steep. He said anything over 15 degrees just pushes the wedge back out instead of lifting the hinge. I re-cut a test stump with a shallower angle and it was like night and day, the thing held solid through the whole drop. Has anyone else had a basic technique slip past them for years that a random tip finally fixed?
