Old timer's pinching cut warning finally clicked after my 30 foot hickory wreck
Guy with 40 years in the business told me to never cut when the tree is leaning hard against the hinge, I shrugged it off, and last Thursday that hickory split and dropped a 3 foot limb two feet from my truck in Chattanooga, anyone else learn that lesson the hard way too?

Read a logging safety guide once that said a leaning tree is basically telling you where it wants to go, and fighting that is asking for a bad day. Sounds like that hickory was way past telling and straight up screaming at you. Glad the limb missed your truck, but man, that's the kind of close call that sticks with you longer than the lesson does. I've watched a few videos of hinge failures and they always look so sudden, like the tree just gives up on being a tree for one second. Good on you for sharing this, it's a cheap reminder for the rest of us who haven't paid for it yet.
