My building manager in Chicago told me my balcony bin was 'attracting pests' and had to go.
He said it was a health code thing, but my neighbor with a dozen potted plants says that's nonsense. Has anyone else had their setup shut down by management?

Notice how rules only apply when it's convenient for them. My old apartment banned window AC units for "safety," but the guy with the loud, rusty fire escape grill never got a notice. It feels like they pick the easiest thing to enforce, not the actual problem. Your potted plant neighbor proves the pest excuse is weak. They probably just don't like the look of the bin.

Spot the difference, a rusty fire hazard grill or a tidy compost bin. Management will always go after the one that doesn't involve an actual conversation with a person. My money's on the bin losing every time because it can't talk back.
