Am I the only one who thought freezing scraps was pointless until a guy in Austin called my bucket a swamp?
I used to just dump banana peels and coffee grounds straight into my counter bucket and wonder why it smelled like death by day 3. A guy at the community garden on East 4th in Austin asked if I was breeding fruit flies on purpose, then told me to start freezing everything first because it breaks down the cell walls and cuts the smell. I tried it for a month with a gallon zip bag in my freezer and my bin stopped leaking that gross brown juice. My worm bin on the balcony went from 3 weeks to 10 days to finish a batch, which I did not expect. Does anyone else freeze before tossing, or do you just deal with the smell?
