Said I'd never buy cracked pottery, then took home piece number 33
For a while I passed on anything with a chip or a hairline crack. Then I counted my shelf last Saturday and realized I had 33 pieces of old yellowware, and every one I actually love has some kind of damage. The perfect stuff sits there looking like a store display. So I paid $14 for a mixing bowl in Columbus with a big crack down one side, because the glaze is a blue I can't find anywhere. Anybody else end up going for the banged up ones over the clean ones?

Bought a cracked brown jug for 8 bucks at a flea market mostly cause the crack had this dark stain running down it, looked like it told a story. Now its my favorite thing on the shelf and the mint condition jug next to it just sits there boring me. My rule became simple, if the damage bothers me in a week I pass, if I stop seeing it I buy. Half my collection has chips now and I would not trade them for the clean ones. The perfect pieces never get picked up, the beat up ones get used.
