The town of Normal, Illinois has a street that just stops on a 1912 plat map and nobody at city hall could explain it
Was digging through a box of plat maps at my uncle's place in Bloomington over the weekend (he collects them, long story) and found one for Normal, Illinois from 1912. There's this road running north off Beaufort Street that just... ends. Not at a river, not at a property line, just stops in the middle of what should be farmland. City hall clerk looked at me like I had two heads when I called Tuesday. Said the current map doesn't show it and she had no idea why anyone would draw it that way. Best guess from a guy at the historical society is a planned subdivision that fell through during a panic around 1913, but he admitted he was guessing. Has anyone run into a dead-end street on an old plat that turned out to be something other than a failed development?
