Dropped $85 on a fake 1850s county map at an estate sale in Dayton, learned my lesson the hard way
I saw a framed map of Montgomery County from around 1850 at an estate sale in Dayton and paid $85 because the paper looked old and the seller swore it was original. Got it home and noticed the town names were printed in a font that didn't exist until the 1920s, plus the whole thing smelled like fresh ink. How do you all spot a repro before you hand over cash, or do you just carry a loupe everywhere now?
