Vent: Bought the $150 'Perfect Collection' Blu-ray set for Neon Genesis Evangelion
The video quality is great, but the new English dub they included is so bad it makes the characters sound bored. I specifically wanted the original 90s dub for the nostalgia, and the box didn't clearly say it was a full replacement. Now I have to track down my old DVDs anyway. Has anyone found a good source for the classic ADV Films version without paying a fortune?

Honestly I used to think the new dub was fine until I heard Shinji's flat line readings in the rebuild scenes. It totally kills the emotional weight when he sounds half asleep during a crisis. The original ADV dub had that raw, over the top energy that just FITS the 90s anime vibe. Now I'm hunting for those old DVDs too, it's wild how a "perfect" collection misses the point so badly.

Yeah that "raw, over the top energy" is exactly it. The new one feels too clean and safe, like they were scared to let the actors actually sound stressed or weird. Totally loses the soul of the show.
