That conversation with the guy at the anime convention about dubs vs subs really messed with my head

I was waiting in line for a autograph at Anime Expo last weekend and this dude in a full Goku costume just turned to me and said 'you know, the original Japanese script has way more emotion because the voice actors actually cry during recording.' He showed me a behind the scenes clip on his phone and... I've always been a dub person but now I'm wondering if I've been missing half the story this whole time. Has anyone else had a random stranger completely change how you watch something?

That Goku guy really put something in your head, huh? I think that feeling of "wait, have I been wrong this whole time?" is rough because it makes you doubt all the enjoyment you already had. Honestly, you probably didn't miss the whole story, you just experienced it through a different lens, and that's totally okay.
