Vent: found out 80% of false alarms are user error and I proved it on a Tuesday
Last week I was at a house in Mesa swapping out a 15 year old panel when the homeowner told me she set off her own alarm 6 times in one month. I pulled up a stat from SIA that said around 80% of false alarms come from user error, not the equipment, and it hit me that I've been blaming sensors for stuff that's really just people forgetting codes. So now when I do a walkthrough I spend 10 extra minutes showing them the keypad instead of rushing to the next job. Had a guy in Tempe last Tuesday who had been paying $45 a month for monitoring and never once armed the system because he was scared of triggering it. How do you all handle the handoff talk without sounding like you're lecturing them?
