Used to run cat6 all willy-nilly until a commercial job bit me
Back when I started 5 years ago I'd just staple cables wherever they fit no plan at all. Then last march I did a 12 camera install at a dentist office and the fire marshal flagged every single run for not being plenum rated or bundled right. Spent a whole saturday ripping it out and redoing everything with proper pathway planning. Has anyone else had a job fall apart just because you skipped the cable layout sketch?

12 cameras in a dentist office? Man the inspector must have been having a bad day. But honestly, you got off easy learning that lesson on a smaller gig. I've seen guys lose whole contracts on hospitals because they skimped on the plenum rating. It's one of those things that feels like a waste of money until the code guy shows up and shuts everything down. Always worth the extra hour to sketch it out, trust me.
