DSC panel firmware update pulled my zone config after 6 years
Went to swap a dead keypad on a DSC PC1864 at a strip mall in Tucson. Called tech support first, they said grab firmware 3.8 to fix the keypad boot loop. Loaded it through the USB link, and all 32 zone definitions came back as defaults. Took 2 hours to reprogram motion loops, door contacts, and the dialer backup from my paper notes. Anyone else get burned by a firmware update wiping panel memory, or did I miss a backup step that's obvious to everyone?

Heard about this exact thing from a guy on a tech forum who ran into it with a PowerSeries panel. Something about the 3.8 flash resetting the EEPROM because the upload tool doesn't always pull the existing config first. He said the trick is you gotta do a full panel backup through DLS before you touch the firmware, otherwise the zones and dialer settings just fall off. Six years of programming gone in one upload is rough though. I'd be digging through the van for a coffee and a cigarette after that. Least you had paper notes, half these guys don't keep anything.
