Chose the cheap micrometer over the brand name, got burned at 3am
Friday night, line maintenance at DFW, gear pin inspection before a 2am push. My old Mitutoyo was in the tool box at the hangar, so I grabbed a $45 knockoff from the truck that showed up last week. First three readings were all over the place, like 0.0008 off each time. Ended up using the calipers from my personal kit just to get the bird out on time. That cheap micrometer now sits in my locker as a paperweight. Anyone else trust low cost measuring tools for quick jobs and regret it?
