A retired inspector in Anchorage once told me to listen for the 'click' on a specific cargo door latch.
He said if you don't hear it, the pin isn't fully seated, even if the handle looks flush. I've caught three potential issues on 737s since then just by listening. Has anyone else had a mentor pass on a simple check like that?

My old crew chief in Phoenix had a similar trick for checking tire pressure by sound. Those little things really stick with you.
