Warning: Cutting corners on sleep between shifts messed with my reaction time.

I pulled a few all-nighters to help a friend move, then jumped right into a grading job. Found myself zoning out while running the dozer, almost missed a marker. That close call scared me straight about rest. Now I make sure to get solid sleep, no matter what. It's crazy how much sharper I feel on the controls!

Seriously, how bad can it be? I know guys who work double shifts on no sleep and run machinery just fine. That marker you missed might have been hard to see anyway. People make mistakes even when they're well rested. You probably just had a lucky wake up call, but it's not always that serious.

Have you ever seen what happens when someone's luck runs out on a job site? I've watched a good friend get hurt because he pushed through when he was too tired. The thing is, it's not about one missed marker. It's about your brain being too worn down to catch the next ten small things that can kill you. That "lucky wake up call" is the only reason some of us are still here to talk about it. Calling it luck just means you haven't seen the other side of that coin yet.
