Serious question, I've been using a small propane torch to heat my punty welds for years.

A friend in Seattle insisted I try a butane micro torch instead, and my seals are cleaner with less scum. Anyone else find a specific tool change that fixed a long-standing problem?

Switched to a butane pencil torch for detail work last year. The pinpoint flame made a huge difference on small boro seals, way less carbon buildup.

Honestly though, is the carbon buildup that big of a deal? I just use my regular torch and give the piece a quick reheat if it gets sooty. Seems like extra gear for a tiny problem.
