My first time at the Asheville studio and I almost made a glass pickle

I was trying to make a simple vase at the River Arts District place last spring, but my gather was way too hot and the shape just kept getting weirder. The instructor, Dave, looked over and said "you know, if you add a little hook to the top, you've got a great holiday ornament." Now I always let my glass cool a bit more before shaping anything. Anyone else have a piece that turned into something totally different?

Lol "let the glass cool too much" is how you get a cracked piece. @the_avery is right that you gotta find the sweet spot. Dave's trick works because a quick hook is way easier to add to a weird shape than trying to save a whole vase.

Dave sounds like he just gave up on you. A real instructor would have helped you fix the vase, not just tell you to make a pickle. Letting the glass cool too much just makes it harder to work with anyway.
