TIL a lunch lady's one comment changed how I parse cheap recipes

Back in March I posted a recipe that used a whole bag of frozen mixed veggies and some random odds and ends, and this commenter said "why are you buying a bag when the loose carrots are 40 cents cheaper per pound?" At first I thought they were nitpicking, but then I checked my receipt and they were spot on. Now I break down any 'bargain bag' item into cost per serving before I toss it in the cart. Has anyone else had a random internet stranger point out a blind spot that actually saved you cash?
