A client told me my invoices were confusing, so I switched to one-line descriptions

They said they couldn't tell what each charge was for, so now I just write 'website homepage design' instead of listing every tiny task. Has anyone else simplified their billing and seen faster payments?

Seems like a lot of overthinking over an invoice.

Started out thinking itemizing everything was the right way to go, but honestly it just made people more confused and slowed down payments. I used to break down every hour and minor task, but clients would question small charges and it created this back and forth that wasted everyone's time. Once I switched to simple one or two line summaries like "monthly social media management" or "site maintenance" things got a lot smoother. The payments actually started coming in faster because there was nothing to argue about or pick apart. I think a lot of us overcomplicate billing when really clients just want to know the big picture cost and what they're getting for it. It made me rethink the whole approach and now I keep all details to myself and only send clean summaries.
