Took me 3 tries to realize I was tightening my shower valve in the wrong direction
I spent a solid 20 minutes cranking a compression fitting tighter and tighter wondering why the drip got worse. A neighbor walked over and said 'you're turning it backwards' and that was it. Has anyone else done something this stupid with a basic fix?

Bet you felt that wave of relief and stupidity hit you all at once. Don't feel too bad, I once spent an hour trying to figure out why my sink wouldn't drain before realizing I had the plug sitting right there in my hand.

Three summers ago I spent forty five minutes trying to start my lawnmower... kept pulling the cord, choking it, checking the gas. Finally called my dad over and he just reached down and flipped the kill switch that I had accidentally bumped off. He just stood there shaking his head while I felt like the biggest idiot in the neighborhood.
