Rant: My zipper foot took 3 hours to figure out for a 5 minute task

I was making a simple cushion cover last weekend and needed to install a hidden zipper. Thought it would take 15 minutes tops. Three hours later I was still wrestling with the zipper foot on my machine because I kept lining it up wrong. Turns out I was using the wrong side of the foot for the fabric weight. Once I flipped it around it worked perfectly in like 2 minutes. Has anyone else spent way too long on a detail that should have been obvious?

Hid zipper" is the sewing equivalent of assembling IKEA furniture.

So is it more frustrating than assembling IKEA or just as bad?
