Rant: I swapped out a standard limit switch for a sealed one on a parking garage lift
The old one kept getting gunked up with road salt and grime every winter, failing maybe three times a year. Last fall I put in a sealed unit from a different supplier, cost about $15 more. It's been through a whole season now with zero callbacks. Has anyone else found a specific part upgrade that just stopped a chronic problem for good?

Honestly that's the best feeling, fixing something for good. It's like that with so much stuff now, appliances, cars, whatever. They use the cheapest possible part that just meets spec, and it fails right on schedule. Spending a little extra upfront for the better version feels like a cheat code. Your garage lift story is a perfect example of that. You stopped the cycle of constant repairs by just buying the right part once.

Tell me about it... that cycle of repeat failures just wears you down. Spending a bit more for the part that actually lasts feels like a small rebellion against planned obsolescence. Your story makes me wonder how many other "standard" parts out there are just time bombs. Getting a whole season without a callback must be such a relief.
