Rant: My $900 oscilloscope was dead on arrival, and I almost blamed the customer

Last Tuesday a guy walked into my shop in Cleveland with a Tektronix scope that wouldn't power on. I was about to quote him $400 for a new board before I checked the fuse holder, turns out the ceramic clip corroded and just needed a 30 cent replacement. Now I always test power paths first, even on expensive gear. How many times have you nearly sold a customer a repair they didn't need?
