TIL a master electrician told me my wire nuts were junk
Dude said I was using the wrong size wire nuts for 12 gauge and 14 gauge in the same box. He showed me how the smaller ones don't grip right with mixed gauges and can cause arcing over time. Has anyone else had a call back from bad wire nut connections they didn't think mattered at first?

Call the guy back and ask him to show you the code that says you have to match wire nuts to gauge that close. I've been doing this 15 years and never had a single callback from a mixed gauge box with a properly twisted joint. Half the time the problem is people don't pre-twist the wires before putting the nut on, not the nut itself. Wire nuts grip fine if you strip them clean and twist them tight enough. Worst case you use a bigger nut than needed and it still holds fine.
