The day I figured out I'd been highlighting wrong for years

I was in a study group for a history class about 6 months ago, and this one girl kept getting A's on every test. I asked her how she studied, and she took a look at my textbook. Every page was covered in yellow highlighter, like almost the whole paragraph lit up. She just laughed and said I was basically just coloring, not studying. She showed me how she only highlights key terms and dates, maybe 5 things per page tops. Now I spend way less time and actually remember what I read. Has anyone else had a study habit that turned out to be totally backwards?

Man people really overthink this stuff. You highlight what works for you, who cares if it's a lot or a little.

@adams.taylor I saw a guy once who highlighted half a library book with neon pink marker. Like every page had these thick pink streaks through entire paragraphs. Librarian chased him out. People really do lose all sense of proportion with this stuff. Just pick your key bits and move on.
