Picked up a quick drain solution while on a mountain trip

Last month, we stayed at a cozy cabin in the woods for a few days. The bathroom sink got clogged and drained super slow. The cabin owner came by and showed me a simple fix using stuff from the kitchen. He had me pour half a cup of baking soda down the drain, then a cup of white vinegar. After it fizzled for ten minutes, I ran hot water to flush it all out. It cleared the clog right up and saved us a call to a plumber. Now I do this at home all the time for minor blockages. It's a handy trick I learned from that little getaway.

Disagree with relying on that trick for every clog. Baking soda and vinegar just make a fizzy reaction that might loosen minor gunk, but it won't cut through real blockages like hair or grease buildup. This method can even leave residue that hardens over time, making things worse. I've seen people try this and end up with a bigger mess when the clog doesn't clear. You're better off using a drain snake or calling a pro for stubborn clogs to avoid bigger problems later.

Used to swear by the baking soda trick myself until our kitchen sink clogged solid. Poured it down, got the fizz, then watched the water just sit there. Plumber pulled out a wad of grease and food chunks that the baking soda had just coated. Total waste of time and made the cleanup smell weird. Now I keep a cheap drain snake under the sink.
