Walked into a new build yesterday and saw they're using those pre-mixed buckets of mud
I remember back when we always mixed our own from the bag on site. These younger crews just pop the lid and go. Anyone else notice this shift on the bigger jobs lately?

Ngl I gotta push back on that a little. Yeah mixing from the bag has its place but on bigger jobs the pre-mixed stuff is a lifesaver for consistency. One batch from the bag can be too thick, the next too thin, and then you're fighting with it all day. The premade stuff just lays down smooth every time, no guessing games. Plus the cleanup on site is way less of a headache when you're not dealing with dusty bags and mixing paddles. The older guys always say "back in my day" but the new stuff actually helps you hit deadlines without the mess.

Questioning if pre-mixed mud is really that much better though. Yeah it's consistent but I've seen guys open a bucket and it's already separated with liquid on top and they gotta stir it anyway. Not exactly grab and go. And cleaning up buckets of dried goo at the end of a job is its own special type of headache. Feels like people just hate the dust more than they hate the extra work.
