The corner bead popped off during a 2pm lunch rush
I was hanging 5/8 board on a vaulted ceiling in a dentist office near Tampa when the metal corner bead snapped clean off the mud joint, dropped 9 feet and nearly hit the receptionist. Turns out the stud behind it was warped from humidity, so I had to screw in a furring strip to level it before re-taping... anyone else see corner beads fail on exterior walls like that?

Chalk it up to another reason I should've stayed in bed that morning... I've had bead pop on exterior walls down here before, but usually it's the humidity warping the track, not the stud. Last time it happened to me, the bead hit my tool bag and cracked my level in half, which was honestly a blessing since that level was already junk. Furring strip is the right call though, just make sure you hit the stud solid or you'll be doing this dance again in six months.
