Overheard a painter complain about my taper's mud joints, now I double check before paint
Last Tuesday I was on a remodel in Austin and the painter starts muttering about how the 12 inch flat boxes looked 'bumpy as hell' under the work lights. I always thought my taper was solid, but I grabbed a 4 foot level and sure enough, there were low spots you'd only catch with a straight edge. Now I carry a cheap halogen work light and run it along every seam before I call it done, has anyone else caught finish problems that way or do you just trust your crew?

Trust your taper but verify with a light, that's just good practice on any job where paint follows. I'd rather catch a bumpy seam with a halogen than hear about it from the painter after the fact.
