Three years running a dredge before I realized my swing cable was twisted the whole time
Been digging channels on the Mississippi near Baton Rouge since 2021. Last month my buddy Jake hops in the cab while I'm on break and goes 'dude why is your cable doing that figure eight thing.' I hopped out and looked and sure enough the whole swing cable had a half twist running from the drum to the sheave. Been fighting the bucket swinging crooked for years and just thought that was normal. Anyone else have a dumb moment like this where you just accepted a problem as part of the job?

Well I mean come on, how much did it really mess with your production? A half twist in the swing cable is annoying but its not like your bucket was digging upside down or something. I've seen guys run with way worse and still hit their marks every day. The real question is did you actually notice a difference after you untwisted it or was it more of a peace of mind thing. Half the time these little quirks just become part of the rhythm and you compensate without even thinking about it. Feels like people get way too worked up over stuff that barely moves the needle on the bottom line.
