Rant: My loader operator buddy made me feel like an idiot about my dredge cut patterns

We were grabbing beers after a job in Corpus Christi and he pulled up a photo of my trench on his phone, said I was leaving too much material on the starboard side every time. He showed me how he overlaps his swings by 2 feet and it clicked why my production numbers have been flat for 6 months. Anyone else have a coworker call them out on something basic that totally changed how they work?

That little overlap trick is one of those things nobody tells you in training but makes all the difference. Your buddy probably saved you months of frustration by pointing it out over a beer. Better to hear it from a friend than from a superintendent breathing down your neck. Sometimes the simplest fix is the one you overlook.

Wait, how long did it take you to realize that your overlap was the problem? Sometimes we get so caught up in doing the job the same way every day that we forget to step back and see the obvious mistake right in front of us. Your buddy did you a huge favor by calling it out, because now you can actually fix your production flow for good.
