Overheard a young guy call my cutterhead an old dinosaur today, got me thinking about how much simpler things were back when I started.
He was on his phone showing off some new GPS guided system while I was elbow deep in the mud on my 20 year old barge, and I realized I don't miss the screens, just the feeling of knowing the bottom by the rumble through my boots, you know?

I read somewhere that experienced guys can tell the bottom type by sound alone.
