Parametric modeling came through for me on a tight deadline

I was stuck on a big drafting job last week where the client kept asking for changes to the dimensions. Every time they tweaked something, I had to go back and fix a dozen related parts in my CAD file. It was eating up so much time, and the deadline was getting close. On a whim, I watched a tutorial on parametric modeling, which lets you link dimensions to formulas. I spent a couple hours redoing the base model with parameters, thinking it might be a waste. But when the next round of changes came in, I just updated the main numbers, and everything else adjusted on its own. I finished the revisions in minutes instead of hours, and the client was happy with the quick turn. Has anyone else had a moment like this where learning a new tool paid off big time?

That initial setup time can be a real killer though, you know? For a lot of one-off jobs or simpler parts, like a basic bracket, spending hours linking parameters is way slower than just moving a few lines. It feels like it only pays off if you know the design will keep changing.

I totally get what patcoleman is saying about the setup time lol. So what was the tipping point for you on that job, like was there a specific change request that made you think "okay, I have to try the parametric thing or I'll be here all night"?
