My brother said my CAD layers were a mess and I finally get it

He's a graphic designer and saw my screen, said 'you're drawing on a single layer like it's 1995'. I've been using AutoCAD for 8 years and never sorted my layers properly. How do you guys organize your layer names for big projects?

Twenty minutes to find a line type sounds like a bad day, but is that really a common problem for most people?

Oh man, I feel this. I used to do the same thing until a contractor asked me for a specific line type and I had to dig for twenty minutes. Now I name layers by what they are and what they do, like "Walls-Existing" and "Elec-Power".
