My neighbor laughed at my shelf level trick - guess who was right?

So I was putting up some floating shelves in my living room last weekend, the long ones that need two brackets each. My neighbor Bob came over to borrow my level and saw me using a laser level I picked up for $30 at a garage sale. He told me I was wasting my time, that a good old fashioned bubble level would do the same job without all the setup. I kept using the laser anyway because I already had the mounts in the wall. After I got the first shelf on, Bob pulled out his own bubble level and checked it, and it was dead on. Then I did the other shelf and checked with his level too, same result. He just shrugged and said I got lucky but I don't think so. That laser cost me less than a dinner out and it saves me so much time on any project where things need to line up. Has anyone else had a neighbor or friend give them bad advice on a simple DIY trick?

Did you ever use his bubble level to double check your other shelves? I had a similar thing with my father in law who swore by a chalk line until I showed him how quick a laser is for marking studs. He still uses his chalk line but he doesnt give me a hard time about it anymore.

@matthewross totally called it... I used his level on a recent project and felt silly for doubting the laser.
